Spectral Massage is audio-visual performance inspired by the role of the shaman as the one who goes in between states(material/spiritual). A mix of projects from both, touching limit states concerning consciousness/unconsciousness, border-lands, and the limit as a non-state/place/sense.

The Inciting Incident involves the collision of glass fragments and the resonant vibrations of glass plates at low frequencies. It explores how every story, whether individual or societal, begins with a single point of creation but inevitably encounters moments of transformation. When creation is the opening sentence of the story, considerations of destruction inevitably follow. Within that story, the story of the life is a repeat of destruction and reconstruction unfolding in a perpetual, cycloid motion of renewal. The parallel between the destruction expressed in the stories and that which we encounter in our lives highlights chaos and transformation. As each collision contributes to the ongoing narrative. We are constantly in flux, undergoing change and growth from this ongoing dialogue between creation and collapse.

Synopsis The Circle as a Place suggests a new perspective of seeing the past as a layer of the current time, therefore, the past as an active actor in the present, which therefore still be able to affect us. With this perspective, the importance of recognizing what happened in the past is emphasized. With the positionality of the artists, Koreans in the Netherlands, the narrative of the work unfolds the story of how the Netherlands and the city Hague, especially the Hague convention in 1907, take a role in the colonization of Korea. This video hopes to deepen the understanding of the interconnection of one place to another, such as how the several events that happened in the Hague in 1907 became so affecting to the other side of the world. The sound piece in this video is re-composed out of several Korean traditional shamanism music, which is usually used for consoling resentment of a ghost. In the video, the Colonial history of Korea is metaphorized as a ghost. This video and sound is dedicated to summoning the colonial past and solacing the scar of colonialism, not only to Korean history but also to other (ongoing) colonial scars across the world.

“Life, the universe, the world, and the time of each day disintegrate and get re-constituted through innumerable acts, incrementally re-build-ing through luminous care. Broken minutes are mended in the afterglow of time’s toxic debris. Life is a luminous autodidact.” — Kuroiwa, Afterglow The Coil of Collapse is a publication composed of 15 glass plates. The research proposes a coil structure, embodying both circularity and linearity, to explore the relationship between creation, destruction, and reconstruction.

This project is a continuation of investigations into the destruction and time from two different perspectives. The structure I made consists of 30 glass pieces that slowly engage in repetitive rotational motion, forming a large circle and a small circle. By illuminating the glass with light, a new perspective emerges as shadows and light entwine, revealing the connection between light and sound. This amplifies the inherent properties of the material, facilitating the exploration of the relationship between light and acoustics. Within this project, a conflict arises between form and meaning, resulting in the creation of new landscapes.

This project is about experimental analysis of behavior as a stimulus, re-sponse, and reinforcement process. It started from Skinner's ABC approach that stands for antecedent (A), behavior (B), and consequence (C) which focuses on observable human behavior and sees that antecedent factors and consequences cause specific action. It means that different connections are possible depending on the environment, and there are countless connection methods. Early studies on behaviorism assumed linear stages of stimulation - thinking - judgment/decision, and action. It is interdependent and brings about each other through direct or indirect causes. In addition, the causes and impulses that create behavior are the effects of external factors. This cycle of causes and impulses repeats the continuous process as if proliferating on its own. It indicates that humans only accept the stimulus of the environment and its characteristic presents the flexibility to adapt to a given different environment. Behavior grows, exists, endures, and dissipates. Existence indicates function. The work asks how the reactive behavior has been defined under the environmental influence and its goal is the prediction and control of behavior. I aim to observe operant conditioning examples, explore the formation process principles, and restructure it.
