Participatory performance in the Salinas de Curro (Blanca, ES)

Seven Fenders and One Rope is an absurdist performance work based on an attempt to carry multiple fenders connected by rope through a space. Housed in a dance studio, the work seeks to re-contextualise the initial function of the fender and the site, allowing for new marine vocabularies to emerge. This performance is part of a wider research practice referred to as sealing, which somatically and through the development of a shamanic alter ego aims to subvert human and non-human dualisms. Thus, by proposing an intra-active yet coexisting body-object orientation and relation, Seven Fenders and One Rope problematises and plays upon the absurdity of human and more-than-human interaction in relation to anthropocentrism, agency and utility. Providing a glimpse into my ongoing research, this performance site-specifically unpacks (human) dominance in relation to object agency while preserving a sense of absurdity within a posthuman context.
