Through transfer of archive photographs and scientific imagery onto lithographic stones, I give some context to the audience on the complex topic of the CCS technology & its history. This sculptural-visual approach enables to make easier for the audience to visualise what is happening kilometres deep under the sea bead, and how the lithographic printmaking technique works. On this picture, the P18-A offshore platform is depicted : "The P18-A offshore platform was built in 1993, approximately 20 km offshore from Rotterdam. After pumping gas for over 32 years, [it has been] repurposed in the summer of 2025 to reverse its function. Instead of extracting fossil fuels, it will inject liquid CO₂ into the geological strata beneath the seabed."

Carbon Migration Royal Academy of Art, The Hague | KABK Rotterdam, Netherlands graduation.kabk.nl/2025/pierre-eric-baumann “Carbon Migration” is a visual investigation of the current development of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology, which involves capturing industrial emissions of CO2, then transforming this gas into a liquid and transporting it by ship and pipeline to storage plants, where the liquid CO2 is injected deep underground. I examine the ambivalence and uncertainties of this new industry through the prism of an experimental documentary approach, combining photo- lithographic printmaking based on carbon pigment and a video essay. As CCS is presented as a temporary techno-fix in the transition away from the fossil fuel industry, how should we consider the ecological risks that this technique and geological intervention pose for the future? How tomorrow is unfolding now, far deep beneath the ocean?

2025Visual research on the PFAS pollution in the delta region of Zeeland, Netherlands Natuur en Milieufederaties Vlissingen, Netherlands In 2024-2025, I have been commissioned by the Dutch environmental NGO Natuur en Milieufederatie (Nature and Environment Federation), and I developed a visual investigation into PFAS pollution in the delta waters of Zeeland (South Netherlands). PFAS are industrially produced chemical compounds used for their waterproof, grease-repellent and heat-insulating properties in a wide range of sectors. Also known as ‘Forever Chemicals’, their fluorine and carbon chain is practically unbreakable in nature. Since they accumulate in the biomass, they are present in all various bodies of the food chain, where they weaken the immune system, cause cancer, diabetes and cholesterol. PFAS are everywhere: they are found in the blood of all tested humans, and have even been discovered at high levels in the blood of Arctic polar bears. In the course of this research, I have concentrated on the Zeeland region, which is so polluted from PFAS, that it is recommended not to eat any food product from the land or sea in this area. I developed a documentary approach with an experimental visual language, in particular by making sculptural bas-reliefs with insulation foam, known for often containing PFAS, and by working with various environmental plants contaminated by this pollution. For the project I have been meeting regularly with militants & scientists. Soon published online. not yet published online finished

2025The Thickness of our Photographs - The material provenience of Photography & its link to Extractivism Book self-published Pierre-Eric Baumann The Hague, Netherlands not yet published online "The Thickness of our Photographs - The material provenience of Photography & its link to Extractivism" is the thesis I wrote for my graduation from the BA Photography at KABK The Hague (2025). This short essay addresses the following question: How can photography deal with climate change, when an ecologist and materialist approach to the history of the medium points to an entanglement with extractivist, dominating and polluting practices? To answer this question, the history of photography is approached from an ecological and materialist perspective, in order to reveal the links of proximity, connivance and codependence between this medium of visual representation and the dynamics of exploitation of natural and human resources specific to extractivism. Self printed & published in a limited edition.
