Residency project, DUPLEX AIR, Lisbon, PT Supported by Gerbrandy Cultuurfonds.. Photo jhoeko A desk, symbolizing the space I occupy — or that I am expected to fill during the time in residency — becomes the actual medium. On its surface, images sourced daily from Al Jazeera’s fact-based News are painted using phosphorescent pigments. These images disappear and reappear, only to fade once more, creating a cycle of presence and absence. What should I bring to the table, today?

Poco a Poco, Waterkant, ex bunker, The Hague. Site specific installation. Poco a Poco invites the audience to reimagine existing works in a one-on-one dialogue, unveiling—quite literally—fragments that evoke an unknown past. These fragments, manipulated to resurface in the present, adapt to time and create new spaces. Whether appearing as images, visions, or fleeting echoes of sound, they linger momentarily before fading, seeking new possibilities for existence. In conversation with one another, they circulate, rotate, flicker, disappear, and reappear. This exhibition is the result of a collaboration between myself and artist Nishiko, where we have been invited to explore and question how to reactivate the former WWII bunker at the Waterkant in The Hague. Courtesy of the artists.

Graduation project Scaffolding Scaffolding BAK basis voor actuele kunst, Utrecht Curated by Rachael Rakes Photo Lin Chun Yao Starting from the question “Can I carry a studio in a backpack?”, and using painting as method, I explore the relation between the reproduction of digital images (reproduced to the exact same size as the digital screen of the original), the representation of the self (depicted in the images), the medium and the physical space I inhabit. Small watercolor depictions of myself appear to be walking, jumping and hiding, exploring the architecture of their temporary dwelling. The depictions, which were extrapolated from a selection of smartphone images, seem to disappear through holes, cracks, crevices, and into the texture of the wall plaster itself. The realization that my current home will be demolished in the near future, pushed me to delve deeper into the concepts of studio and space, which resulted in the idea to use my room as both studio and artwork. The room was subdivided into sections and the watercolors were torn off the walls by means of strappo, a technique applied in the field of art conservation in which the topmost layer of plaster, which has absorbed the pigments of the painted surface, is lifted and removed, after which it is applied to a new support.

2023Figurine Piccole Figure Minuscule people populate Giorgia Lo Faso’s evolving studio interiors Magazine Kate Mothes Minneapolis, United States dovetailmag.com/2023/11/giorgia-lo-faso/ Work review. Inspired by connections to places and people, the magazine focuses on pathways between contemporary art and place in myriad forms. We aim to highlight global practices that examine experiences and identity as it relates to our landscapes, the environment, and spaces we inhabit. The magazine was originally co-founded in 2020 by curator and writer Kate Mothes and artist Vickie Vainionpää as a semi-annual print and online publication celebrating ideas and practices that “fit nicely” alongside contemporary art. The first iteration of the project produced two print magazines in addition to online articles and special features on The Niche. Due to shifting professional goals and pandemic-related changes, Dovetail went on hiatus in early 2021. In the summer of 2022, Mothes relaunched Dovetail with a renewed focus on contemporary art as it specifically relates to place. A generous grant from Arts Midwest, as part of the inaugural Creative Midwest Media Cohort, prompted new commissions and the return of a print publication, scheduled for release in late summer/early autumn of 2024. Commissions and the publication as a whole is committed to being ad-free and independent, and relies on donations, proceeds from the bookshop, and paid subscribers to Dovetail’s sibling platform, Young Space Digest.
