As a visual artist, my practice navigates through topics of labour, efficiency, productivity, with a focus on the notions of laziness and uselessness. How can we create work as artists without submitting to injunctions to productivity? How can we make valuable works for our community but not for the market? The first step of my process is to gather materials from different sources; individual’s stories, official documents, personal photographs, archive material, theoretical texts, and so on. From this heterogeneous collection, I slowly start making connections between different elements, most of the time discovering links I would not have expected. An important aspect of my practice is keeping an Amateur approach, as a way to confront production norms as an artist. This translates into a willingness to discover new mediums and techniques I haven’t yet mastered, which I then combine with printmaking through scans, cut-outs, collages. I also like to work with video and sound, recontextualizing material shot in the past with new field recordings. This enables me to merge materials with different visual qualities and transform them to work together as new entities.
