2022Have we met? Dutch pavilion at the Triennale di Milano Milan, Italy Have we met? promotes new ways of understanding the Earth as a shared space for plants, microbes, humans, and other animals. The view that earth exists solely for human exploitation must be radically rethought in order to confront the environmental crises the planet is facing today. The exhibition therefore explores what attitudes, organisational tools and technologies are necessary to recalibrate the relationship between humans and non-humans. SONDER The Hague, Netherlands Sonder is an audience composable installation-performance with manifold possibilities. 40 lenses come together in a curved installation, breaking different kinds of light in spectacular ways onto the audience. Accompanied by a paired score borrowing from field recording, techno and noise, the piece is played almost as an instrument, apparatus, a sculpture come alive. The work explores individualism and collectiveness; it spans a dynamic range which gives time and care to small details as well as overwhelming gestures. The audience is invited into states of introspection, wondering, chrysalism and a sense of sonder. Sonder is a first collaborative piece by the artist group MIA (Maarten Keus, Inga Hirsch and Alexander Köppel). Orginally created for Traumburg festival 2023, SONDER is now in further development.

BA.102 (15') A composition for granular presence Royal Academy of Art The Hague The Hague, Netherlands graduation.kabk.nl/2023/alexander-koppel BA.102 (15') A composition for granular presence BA.102 is a site specific composition for multichannel sound and light. A scene exploring the qualities of its space and different modes of relating. The piece invites to explore the edges of one's perception. It creates a time and a space in which affects can be embraced as they occur. BA.102 brings you to where you can tap into the more granular areas of your attention, listening and presence. [This project and its development became somewhat of a blueprint for a series of compositions I am planning to do in the future - different spaces, different alterations will keep shaping the underlaying ideas of the piece and what it can become for an audience.]

IMT 553 (10') Club Wibar Leiden, Netherlands IMT 553 (10') For Wibar Digitaal, Alexander Köppel transformed one of the shipping containers in the club into a sound chamber. The installation attempts to blur the physical boundaries of the container, playing with resonant frequencies of the space and its tactile responses. IMT 553 invites listeners to explore the lush, textured composition challenging its confined metal home.

FINSTER Utrecht, Netherlands FINSTER (- Dark [German] - syn.: sinister, gloomy, obfuscated) is a site specific installation transforming one of the cells in the old PBC for Uncloud 2021 into a multi sensory spatial scene. It combines subjects of architecture, culture and perception. The work embeds all surfaces of the cell in black fabric, creating a second skin, a delusive cover, which leaves the visual subordinate to olfactory, tactile and sonic stimuli. FINSTER draws parallels to spaces which seem the farthest away from our current possibilities of unforeseen encounters - with others or oneself - where the unknown (also) makes space for excitement and freedom. The installation aims to counteract the obvious prison cell, seeking to evoke feelings of insideness and otherness and offers a place to dwell in.

20174DSOUND - Spatial Sound Institute Budapest Budapest, Hungary After my first studies I did an artist residency and internship (technical assistant) with 4DSOUND to dive deeper into the connections of sound and space. I learned a lot, was able to develop my practice and give my live performance debut. The time at the SSI was incredibly important for me. Today I look back at it as the major starting point of my research into sound, space, human perception, listening and atmospheres. spatialsoundinstitute.com/

2023LateMode Podcast #15 - Touching Sound - the failure of concepts with Alexander Köppel Giulia Morlando Amsterdam, Netherlands open.spotify.com/episode/6rPU0HslGiuK56CKpHEPJL?si=fc869fd648ca41ab In this episode, Giulia is joined by Alexander Köppel, an artist, spatial designer and musician, currently based in The Netherlands. Alex's work fuses sound and space into sensorial experiences conveyed through installations, sound production and narrative elements. Fascinated by his modes of investigation Giulia invited him into a discussion about failure and perception. How do we create intention while leaving space for the imagination? Those topics brought upon a reflection on how paying attention can help us care for ourselves and others. (Episode description by Giluia Morlando)
