infoSeeing and experiencing the installation requires the visitor to bow their heads to the lowered ceiling for entering a secluded space. This intimacy is necessary to share what drives her, and overcome life’s volatility. Video images, miniatures and the surrounding cardboard all merge. In A body of water, an undercurrent seeps in through the cardboard walls and acts as a trigger. The ingress of moisture into the walls represents my physical response to changes at the micro level. It is a mirror for what is happening outside and what we are made so hyper-aware of by all the media exposure. Video images, miniatures and the surrounding cardboard all merge. Cardboard is a poor material that activates Jemima's almost naïve urge in me to make precise and clear-cut miniatures that are rich in details and expression. The cardboard also acts as a vulnerable body for both the miniatures and the large space. Like a shell for the fleeting stories. "As unsuspecting visitors, we stepped into a different world, a world made of cardboard, enveloped in subdued light. Before our eyes unfolded a paper spectacle of everyday life: seemingly simple, yet palpably complex and filled with absurd and wondrous details. With 'A Body of Water,' Jemima has constructed a rabbit hole for the spectator. Penetrating into it, the jury found themselves in a Wonderland. As we moved from room to room in this ever-expanding diorama, we were pulled into an overwhelming total experience. Through a delicately crafted choreography, 'A Body of Water' seamlessly transforms the viewer from spectator to participant, engaging us in a silent metamorphosis." -Stiching Jan Roëde

Uprooted Eye Film Museum Amsterdam, Netherlands www.jemimadejonge.com/uprooted/ A short film in which the viewer is seduced to wander through a dark empty city. The film consists of one continuous shot through maquettes made from paper and charcoal. At unexpected moments, a few clothes and an apple appear on a clothesline crisscrossing the city. These seem to offer the wanderer guidance through strange situations. Passing by windows, peeping into a world we cannot reach.
