Radio New Babyloninfo
In the 1960's, to accompany lectures and the installations of his New Babylon project, Dutch artist and Situationist Constant Nieuwenhuys created audio collages of music, voices, field recordings and sound effects - portraits in sound of a city of the future. Inspired by this, Radio New Babylon, initiated by Justin Bennett, is a collection of audio pieces by local and international artists made specifically to be listened to in and around the "New Babylon" office and apartment complex in Den Haag. The artists and musicians were encouraged to think about the connections and discrepancies between the contemporary building and Constant Nieuwenhuys' visionary city of play. The pieces include ambient soundtracks, spoken-word podcasts, electronic experiments, field recordings from deep caves, reggae songs, insect songs, compositions for piano, organ, strings and percussion, instructions to the listener etc, etc. With contributions from Hendrik Hohlfeld, Felix Kubin, Topp & Dubio, Ji Youn Kang, Roel Meelkop, among others.

2023Fever Festival The Grey Space In The Middle The Hague, Netherlands Centered around the works of up-and-coming artists who address current social realities, FEVER Exhibition & Festival fills The Grey Space from the 10th until the 20th of August with art, performances, club nights, workshops and talks. In a time marked by increasing social unrest, the goal of FEVER is to spark conversation around critical issues affecting our collective consciousness. It invites spectators to take a moment to ponder and engage with these difficult truths, providing a reflective perspective of society. Organizers Lorenzo Holder and Jon Skygge aim for FEVER to reveal both the beauty and the challenges in our world, with the hope of inspiring attendees to envision a better future. “Going beyond artistry; FEVER is a rallying cry for social consciousness and environmental stewardship. Community-led activism lies at the heart of this radiating festival, reminding us that change begins with heightened sensory awareness. With thought-provoking installations, performances, immersive soundscapes and throbbing techno, FEVER sparks a fire within our collective psyche, inspiring dialogue, and igniting transformative action.” – FEVER Festival thegreyspace.net/program/fever-festival-2023/ Group

2019The rare amassment of Barbarizsm and Anthony Blokdijk Trixie The Hague, Netherlands Barbarizsm and Blokdijk are pillars of the Dutch underground, working in the realms of the transgressive with an affinity towards punk and anti/outsider art. They produced and accumulated their work and archives simultaneously from the late 80s onward, without crossing paths. Their output, par exemple; Barbarizsm portraying fashion designer Vivienne Westwood — Blokdijk publishing writer William S. Burroughs with Maldoror, gives us a unique insight of their cumulation, associating to other prolific artists of their time. This exhibition will form a modest retrospect of selected work, showing their development and diligence during tumultuous stage of the 80s till now. Curated by RJM Vanderheyden en Petros Panagiotis Orfanos. www.trixiethehague.nl/events/in-cache-the-rare-amassment-of-barbarizsm-and-anthony-blokdijk/ Duo

2017100 Years of Dada Book Maldoracca Diversen The Hague, Netherlands 100jaardada.blogspot.com/ From the foreword by initiator Anthony Blokdijk: 'In 2016 the art movement Dada celebrated its centenary. To celebrate this, I worked that whole year on 100 Years of Dada (a workshop/book project), which also indicates a collaboration between publisher Maldoracca and mental health organization the Parnassia-Bavo group. At various locations I decided to inspire patients of Parnassia to make Dada-like art. Explaining what Dada entailed as an art movement was not that difficult; it began as a critique of the first world war, and sympathized with madness. With a book on hand for the illustrations, I promised the patients that their artwork would also be included in a book. At the same time, I asked artist friends to contribute, leaving the casual reader to guess whether the artworks would be by patients or regular artists. The underlying idea is the de-stigmatization of patients in general.' With contributions from Dick Verdult, Geert-Jan Hobijn, Machiel van Soest, Flora Reznik and many others.
