Shadow Mishi was on display in public spaces of the Netherlands in 2023 thanks to Demo festival. Mishi is a reflection about difference. Difference applied to the medium (carving, substracting), difference in regards the mechanism of perception such as light (darkness and shadow). It directed the work towards shadow puppets, the ones from Java, Indonesia in particular that resonate deeply with the colonial past of the Netherlands.

An anticipation of evolutionary mutations based on environmental changes. Drinking water is the world's most vital wealth. While hydration is threatening to cause the migration of entire populations, technology is on the brink of providing long term solutions to our biological limitations. A human body produces on average 2000 ml of urine waste a day, 90% of which is recyclable water. Imagine a world where water scarcity had caused our bodies to adapt. Artificial new body parts would enable our system to need half the amount of water and therefore considerably reduce our dependance to hydration. Can we design a more autonomous and sustainable body? Leaving aside the scientific challenges, Hone in a Bag enquires on the sociological impact of such a change. The project contemplates how structural and biological enhancement could reinvent identity, sense of self, beauty standards and social interactions.

2018Manifestations Dutch Design Week 2022, Netherlands Manifestations focuses the spotlight on art and projects that investigate the ‘matches’ and ‘mismatches’ between people and technology. For example, meet clothing that takes care of you, AI that teases or protects you, fighting robots or robots that just lend a helping hand. In short: art and technology with a human dimension: sometimes confrontational and other times the perfect match, but always critical, playful, recognizable and awe-inspiring. 2018.manifestations.nl/en/ Group

2018Future Bags 2019 Amsterdam, Netherlands A group of young designers from the Bachelor Interactive / Media / Design of the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague (KABK) has been commissioned to design 'the bag of the future'. The students think about new forms of functionality, interactivity and social identity. What new materials and techniques will there be in 2050? Will hyperconnectivity soon ensure that we no longer need a bag; that our body itself is 'the bag'? www.kabk.nl/projecten/samenwerkingsproject-imd-tassenmuseum-hendrikje

Home in a Bag KABK/TassenMuseum/ENSIACET The Hague/Paris/London, Netherlands 2020 In the future, we will increasingly face global water shortages and problematic access to clean drinking water. The Home in a Bag concept design offers a solution to this basic human need. The handbag of the future filters urine and converts it into drinking water. With this bag, based on a stoma and integrated in the body, everyone can largely provide their own drinking water.

2024Troubled Waters The Hague, Netherlands ‘Troubled Waters’ is a digital meditation exploring how our choices in one world impact another. Valentina’s exhibition aims to raise awareness of the positive impact and responsibility associated with modern technology. In a time where discerning reality is challenging, the installation, including lilies and images from the digital realm, questions our connection to the natural world versus virtual reality. The soundscape, created by composer Maarten Brijker, and spoken texts inspired by dialogues with artificial intelligence highlight the limitations of these techniques in creativity and empathy. www.ofluxo.net/troubled-waters-valentina-gal-at-expo-bart-nijmegen-the-netherlands/ finished
