2019Own Your Own 3 Haagse Kunstkring Den Haag "Through our own choice in the space of the Haagse Kunstkring, we show work with our own perspective in order to design the space in an innovative way. These are the disciplines that connect with each other: Textile & Fashion, Fine Arts, Interior Architecture and Furniture Design, Photography, ArtScience and Graphic Design. With this we continue a tradition that started at the Haagse Kunstkring in 1891 from the vision of diversity of founder Théophile de Bock. 2017Let Me Tell You About Unseen Amsterdam, Netherlands 12 third-year photography students have curated an exhibition led by teachers such as Ola Lanko, Raimond Wouda, Adam Broomberg and Oliver Chanarin. “As makers we have an important role: telling stories. At a time when news sources, image rights and authenticity are not always clear, it is important to take a good look around us. Where is the boundary between fact and fiction, how do you recognize a reliable source, and what can you as a photographer add to this discussion? ” On Unseen, the third-year students told about their world through photography. While each photographic story stood on its own, they shared a desire to tackle tricky themes that occupy them as young makers. www.kabk.nl/projecten/kabk-x-unseen Group

Silent Canary Kelmis, Belgium vimeo.com/368416268 As our lust for technological devices grows, so does the impact on the world and its inhabitants. In the 19th century, a mining company was in charge of a piece of land now called Kelmis. In order to extract the greater profit — zinc — out of its soil, the company shaped the landscape and the community for its needs. Half a century later, due to technological impossibilities, the mine, as well as the country, lost their value. Today, a new mining company is aware of the potential profit that still exists under the city’s ground. In addition to the remaining zinc, a rare element used in our technological devices lays next to it: Germanium. This company has come to stake its position among Kelmis, wanting to reanimate the old tunnels. While the state and corporations are discussing regulations and procedures, the citizens can only wait as silent spectators of their lives. Silent Canary delves into the social implications of resource extraction. It opens a dialogue between past and present in this right moment of stalemate. By interweaving traces of the former mine and portraits of the community, the project exposes the human figures at the mercy of forces driven by profit.

The Twilight Of The Gods Den Haag, Netherlands The rotten is hidden just beneath an idyllic surface. In Scheveningen just a few steps from the North Sea, there was a restaurant with a singular history: Rocco’s Pizza. To open it is not just any restaurateur, but Rocco Gasperoni, a 74-year-old man from Gioiosa Jonica, who in the nineties was one of the most important drug brokers of ‘Ndrangheta. Sentenced to fourteen years in prison by the Court of Turin in 2007, he was able to live free in The Netherlands until he got arrested on May 18, 2016. For 15 years Rocco Gasperoni hid his real identity to his community. Described as the guy who always had a big smile on his face, Rocco Gasperoni was a man affiliated with one of the most dangerous mafia association in the world. The project investigates the presence of Rocco Gaperoni by questioning the real identity of his neighbourhood. Do we really know the guy next door?

Every Other Day Den Haag, Netherlands A loss creates a question mark in your head that in one way or another has to be solved. By investigating my loss I started to explore other people experiences about the same trauma. When I was 17 I lost my father just like my father did. A gap separates you from the person you lost, it seems that people start to perceive another image of the world, living momentarily in two places in once. To chase and to be chased.

2018Integrated Freedom Humanity House Den Haag, Netherlands In the middle of The Hague, international city of Peace and Justice, stands the International Zone: a place where international organizations and residential areas coexist. Mostly collocated far from populated areas, International Zones necessitate elevated security measures which consequently present themselves in a very prominent and visible aspects. Fences and high walls would have too much impact on citizens of a semi-residential area, and this is why The Hagueʼs international Zone is also considered as a testing ground for new security measures. So how do we make security and freedom coexist? The dunes, a historical an familiar element of the dutch landscape have been re-used to solve security requirements in an inventive yet questionable way. Thanks to their wavy qualities, the dune-scape blends buildings and environment into one composition, achieving maximum security with minimum visibility. Integrated freedom analyzes the landscape of The Hagueʼs international Zone by unfolding two realities: the one we perceive and the one we do not. humanityhouse.org/tentoonstelling/kabk-diana-gheorghiu-en-filippo-maria-ciriani/ finished
