Dayna Casey

Dayna Casey (NL/AU, 1988) is a multidisciplinary artist whose work spans artistic research, writing, editing, and graphic design. She holds an MA in Art Praxis and Critical Theory from the Dutch Art Institute. Casey’s practice delves into themes such as ecology, reproduction, and their connections to extractivism and global finance. These matters form the basis for various writing, object relations and visual essays, often culminating in (spatial) publications and/or mixed-media installations, recently shown at Radius CCA, Delft (NL), Kunsthal Gent (BE), Cusp, Hangzhou (CN), ABC Artbookfair (CN) and the Jan van Eyck academy (NL), and published in various artistic publications. Casey is currently collaborating with Eline Benjaminsen, where they study financial slang and its etymological histories, revealing the absurd (super)natural ‘fictions’ that violently shape our worldly ecology. This has resulted in a video work, various objects, and an upcoming book (Spector Books, 2024). Her ongoing research Fertile Imaginaries has most recently looked into the parallels between bodily and earthly extraction in the practice of egg-freezing. The work examines contemporary (in)fertility through the lens of financialised climate risk, exploring bodily boundaries, intimacy, kinship, and doubt, making use of auto-theory and fiction. She was initiator, co-editor and designer of the Wxtch Craft zine series with Erika Sprey, is (guest)tutor at various MA programmes (NL & BE), and is on the advisory committee at Stimuleringsfonds.
