Annika Syrjämäki (Zweden 1975) is based in the Netherlands and works in the field of art and (textile) design.
Her work has an inquisitive character, both in material research and the subject.
She does not shy away from experimentation, this produces surprising results both aesthetically and content-wise.
Her main inspiration comes from the ever-changing world around us, with all its changes and innovations.
This has led to bioplastic research, and how to manipulate textile with screen-printing to create texture and relief.
In the artworks series “Revolution of Paint” and “Daily Pattern”, she uses the content as the source of the visual outcome, working together with a programmer to analyse the data of the subject.
She wants to surprise the viewer, sometimes with the material - it’s not always what it seems, sometimes with layers of meaning or information hidden in the image.
