Willem Goedegebuure:
"Conscious of the tradition and history of painting - in which genres such as portrait, figure, landscape and still life always will find new forms but never disappear – my work focuses on the relationship between the image (the representation) and the material of its realization; the paint.
I find my imagery in reality as it comes to us through the media, especially newspaper photographs. The world of Reuters and AP, captured by often-anonymous photographers, seems more real than the world we see with our own eyes when we take a step outside.
What will happen when this fast-paced world of the news is being translated into the much slower medium of painting? It leads to images that show a different view on actuality, images that - without losing their dynamics – can transform time-based events into situations of a more permanent character.
As paintings these temporary events become situations of all time that can be read as models or socio-metric sketches of the human condition ".
