Topp & Dubio is a conceptual multidisciplinary artist duo based in The Hague. Topp & Dubio study and scrutinize reality from a conceptual starting point, often arising from a desire to explore parallel worlds. Most of their work originates in response to given situations or opportunities. Their projects flawlessly deal with fact and fiction, the search for meaning, the interaction of art and daily life, the personal and the public, observation and participation, the accidental and the incidental, the romance of imagination and subjective realities. Topp & Dubio do public interventions, video, site-specific installations, audience-interaction, books and all sorts of (audiovisual) documentation. Topp & Dubio works are temporary by nature, are never replicated and only subsist in memory and documentation.

2020This ForumTri Oud-Rekem, België , Belgium Topp & Dubio tonen in een van de karakteristieke zolderzalen de installatie 'This' dat bestaat uit een vijftiental kleine en grotere opstellingen. Een aantal van deze werken zijn een reconstructie van installaties die in 2014 in een WWII-bunker in Den Haag te zien waren. Deze installaties zijn, zoals de meeste Topp & Dubio werken, in de loop van de tijd uiteen gevallen. De afgelopen maanden hebben de kunstenaars getracht alle onderdelen terug te vinden. Waar nodig zijn onderdelen vervangen. Daarnaast zijn er nieuwe installaties aan toegevoegd die een voortzetting zijn van het eerdere werk. De alarmcel tussen al het andere topp dubio Den Haag, Netherlands www.topp-dubio.nl/15exhibitions/15-Alarmcel.html 2015-2020 Topp & Dubio zijn een onderzoek gestart naar de herkomst en betekenis van het kunstwerk ‘Buste van Stalin met Haring’ dat al bijna dertig jaar in Den Haag staat en zich afspeelt in een zogenaamde ‘alarm-telefooncel’. De rood verlichte installatie, waarin vrouwen en haring als liefhebberijen van Stalin worden opgevoerd, kent een roerige geschiedenis en werd speciaal voor de Haagse rosse buurt gecreëerd door Vitaly Komar en Alexander Melamid, een van oorsprong Joods Russisch kunstenaarsduo uit New York. Topp & Dubio zijn al jaren fan van dit werk en beschouwen de installatie als het meest relevante en uidagende kunstwerk in de openbare ruimte in Den Haag. “De alarmcel is uitdagend, ironisch, actueel, conceptueel, confronterend, kritisch, lachwekkend en kwetsbaar tegelijkertijd.”

Topp & Dubio vs. Yuri Lunacharsky NCCA Kaliningrad Kaliningrad, Russian Federation www.ncca.ru/en/events.text?filial=4&id=1079&listid=18 Topp & Dubio started a never ending dialogue with Lunacharsky by creating project based works that respond to the major themes in Lunacharsky's artworks: space, time, energy, history and human existence. By doing so, Topp & Dubio place Lunacharsky back into today’s reality and create a new space to review the value of his work as a contemporary artist. This project can be seen as a sort of subjective correction of Russian art historiography from an artist's point of view. The exhibition shows both of their work in retrospective. Side by side or face to face. Or both.
