'Sekrève captures that fleeting transition in her work. In her photographs, she documents the universality of that elusive moment in time. The longer you look, the less you know. Is her brother angry, sad, or just deep in thought? What exactly is going on inside him?'
I come from a close-knit family where I grew up as one of five children. Our bond has been very strong since childhood. Trust and being there for each other are important values that we have been taught and that still connect us today. These family ties have contributed to how I view and perceive the world. In my work as a photographer and filmmaker, I can capture what is important right now: connection.
I feel an intrinsic urge to create genuine connections and bring people closer together. For me, it is valuable to show through my work that we are all connected. Especially in these times of mistrust, misunderstanding and increasing division in society. With my work, I want to create a counter-movement, using the intimate moments I capture with my camera as a statement against that division.

Lawrence and I understand each other, speak the same language, with and without words. Because we share our lives and our childhood. Because we are both artists. The trust and close bond we share retains its strength when I hold my camera between the two of us. By documenting Lawrence’s transition into adolescence, I simultaneously reflect on my own childhood memories. The project touches on universal themes of growing up and self-discovery.
