(in italics) My bodie is tardigrade-translucent, soft-scaled, but do not be afraid! I have hands to hold for us both. Skrimsilicious is a creature patched together from fragmented appropriations and collaged retellings of sea-monster mythologies surrounding Arnarfjörður. The work plays with the tension between cuteness and monstrosity, a strange softness. Skrimsilicious’ passivity and vulnerability summon tenderness and potential latent violence. (in italics) Just hold me, monster comrade!

2026The Factory: Reaching for the Other Djupavik Djupavik , Iceland The Factory is an annual art exhibition held in Djúpavík’s abandoned herring factory. By uniting the vanished past and contemporary art, diverse expressions merge, evoking a space of sensory experiences and artistic diversity. In 2026, The Factory explores the theme of connectedness. Within this context, site-responsive art will be exposed, approaching Djúpavík's herring factory as a co-creator. What emerges when seizing a location not merely as a shell around the art, but as a creator equal to the artist? The idea of connectedness also raises questions about its opposites: alienation and disconnection. Thus, the exhibition will encompass worlds of fiction, dreams, heritage, nostalgia, and possible futures. www.listahatid.is/en/vidburdir/factory-djupavik Group

2026I want to Be Glue! TUR_telpa Riga, Latvia Shana de Villiers’ I want to Be Glue! transforms TUR into the dwelling place of a serpentine creature. Appearing to burst from within the space, the snake emerges as something strangely tender: a patchworked body stitched together from different textures and mythologies. Visitors are invited to approach the creature directly, to sit before her and listen. Fragments of sound, whispered texts, and interventions by costumed mediators guide the encounter, shaping an environment that moves between playfulness, intimacy, and unease. Running throughout the exhibition is the suggestion that monstrosity is never located entirely outside ourselves. In a contemporary climate shaped by fear-mongering and increasingly rigid social divisions, I want to Be Glue! proposes another mode of encounter. The exhibition asks what becomes possible when fear gives way to curiosity, and when the unfamiliar is approached with attention rather than suspicion. Through sculpture, sound, performance, and participation, de Villiers constructs a temporary world in which the monstrous becomes something that can be listened to and perhaps even recognised within ourselves. 2025I am Frankie, and you still love me. Das Leben Am Haverkamp Den Haag , Netherlands Shana de Villiers invites you to enter the bedroom of Frankie, a shapeshifting creature-character that some would call: monster. Frankie is both fragment and whole; you and me. Through this intimate and theatrical installation, Shana explores queer post-colonial identity and shame. Despite the stratification of being, shame is a thing we all carry. www.daslebenamhaverkamp.com/project-space/shana-de-villiers Solo

2024NIGHTSHIFT: Heden x Bermuda Open Studios Heden Gallery Den Haag , Netherlands For the second time, Heden/Today and Bermuda Open Studios present a special exhibition together. In NIGHTSHIFT, we celebrate nightlife as a sanctuary for unlimited expression and identity formation. In this exciting show, we show you the different faces of the night. In NIGHTSHIFT, we present nightlife from a variety of perspectives: from collective festive events to individual identity-forming moments. We also highlight the night as a sanctuary for the exceptional, bizarre, and uncanny, where every subculture can manifest itself without limits. In this way, the night shapes modern urban mythology. We also reveal the rough edges of nightlife. Because freely expressing friendship, identity, love, sex, and drugs can get out of hand, and then the night, in all its viciousness, will turn against you and your vulnerability. In this co-production, the participating artists in NIGHTSHIFT share their fascination with nightlife and reflect poetically and nonjudgmentally on the risks it can entail, such as addiction, transgression, and loneliness. In addition to a selection of works from Heden's diverse collection, we are excited to present work by nine artists affiliated with Bermuda Open Studios: Adele Dipasquale, Dirk Hardy, Jesus Canuto Iglesias, Jonathan Hielkema, Koos Breen, Shana de Villiers, Silke Riis, Alice West, and Femke Hoppenbrouwer. NIGHTSHIFT was curated by Ariane Toussaint (founder of Bermuda Open Studios) and Maarten de Leede (curator of the Heden Foundation The Hague). Group

Animal Farm x Billytown Stockholm Independent Art Fair Stockholm, Sweden For this year's Supermarket, Stockholm's Independent Art Fair, Billytown will present ‘Animal Farm x Billytown’, George Orwell’s literature illustrated by each Billytown artist with their own interpretation. Inspired by the ‘Billytown says Haaaaayy!!’ presentation, installed directly in front of the Dutch Parliament in The Hague’s city centre last year, the book includes the paper made out of the hay from the presentation. Using ‘Animal Farm’ as a conceptual framework, the project examines the internal dynamics of an artist-run initiative, emphasising self-organisation, collective effort, and shared ideals within a wider cultural setting. The book launch will be accompanied by a mural presentation and artworks from the publication.

Catalog Maastricht Centre for Arts and Culture, Conservation and Heritage (MACCH) Christian Ernstern, Erik Wong, Shana de Villiers & more Maastricht , Netherlands A publication in response to a Symposium held at het Nieuwe Instituut. ‘ This publication is an exercise along these lines, a messy patchwork of contributions dealing with issues of colonial history, climate stories and justice through critical fabulation. It captures the work of researchers and artists from the networks of the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague, the Gerrit Rietveld Academie and Maastricht University. The contributions deal in very different ways with issues such as positionality, not forgetting and working against erasure.’

2025Monstrous reverberation, human reverberation Magazine Vlinder Verhouden for Mister Motley Netherlands www.mistermotley.nl/monsterlijk-weerkaatsen-menselijk-weergalmen/ Today, Shana de Villiers' solo exhibition " I am Frankie, and you still love me" opens at Das Leben am Haverkamp. Vlinder Verouden wrote an essay based on a conversation with Shana. "According to Shana, we all carry shame within us, some more than others. Especially those of us who are marginalized and so monstrous, treated like monsters, feel a great deal of shame." […] "The exhibition misleads the visitor, holds up a mirror, makes us wonder who or what the monster is: the intruder or the absentee, and to what extent we ourselves are involved in the monster process."
