My work delves into the complexities of romance in the 21st century, using oil paint as a medium to bridge the gap between modern experiences, social media and the timeless visual languages of the past. Oil paint, with its rich texture and historical resonance, offers me the perfect vehicle to explore the interplay between tradition and contemporary narratives. In my research, I study historical images and art movements, seeking to understand how ideals of love, beauty, and relationships were once portrayed. These references serve as a mirror to the romantic ideals and disillusions of our current age, where love often exists in fragmented digital realities and fleeting encounters. Through my paintings, I investigate these juxtapositions—old-world courtship against new-world swiping, passionate gestures in a time of instant gratification, and the struggle to find depth in an age of immediacy.
Ultimately, my paintings are an invitation to reflect on how love is both shaped and distorted by the passage of time, and how we, as modern individuals, can find meaning in those romantic traditions while navigating the complexities of our present reality.

2019JAN ROËDE AWARD 2019 Jan Roëde award, Den Haag Den haag, Netherlands Eliza Reszka has turned the space allocated to her into a visual journey that draws t story of her sudden departure from Poland as a 13yearhe visitor in. The old is revealed in loose, cutout drawings that occupy the space in an unusual way. Lampposts pull you along the road, the flag of the European Union beckons, a traffic sign lights u p and human figures come and go without gravity taking hold of them. This tumbling whole is fragmentary in the way memories are. Yet we understand: this is a flight to a better life. At the end we see a houseplant, a symbol home On the face of it, this work is cheerful, playful and light hearted, with a humour that we can call "Roëdian", but the undertone is serious and resonates with the issues surrounding people leaving their home to settle elsewhere. The topicality of this theme, coupl ed with the originality of its visual power, makes the work convincing. With her presentation “Przygody kiszonej kapusty” (Sauerkraut Adventures), Eliza Reszka is the winner of the Jan Roëde Award 2019
