Paul Wiegerinck

I mainly work in two disciplines: video (film and projects) and painting (two-dimensional work in different materials), occasionally combined in an installation or animation. Flat and static versus spatial and moving. The interaction of the disciplines in which I work sometimes results in surprising insights and visual solutions that form the background and motivation of my work. Over the years I have given my visual vision to a large number of themes and subject, and in various 2D works and video works I have conducted research and experimented with the formal aspects of painting and filming (and photography). Videos Viewing Doors: a video film / installation filming from the moving doors of more than three hundred electricity stations spread across The Hague (thanks to Eneco) and thus showing The Hague from the nodes of its electricity network. Remains: in this video áll the clothing of my wife who died suddenly in 2015 is photographed (as found shortly after her death) and after that each item of clothing is zoomed in on traces of use: wear, stains, spots, discolorations, false folds, holes, cracks, loose hanging knots, drying marks, fluff, hair and more. Proof of a lived life, related to the coherence in choices made with regard to materials, color and shape when purchasing the garments over a longer period of time. Rotating Camera: In this video, the recordings of a camera attached to rotating objects (bicycle wheel, windmill blades, fan blades) produce unexpected images of the public space (including rotating wheel covers of cars parked alongside the road). Parking Lot: In this video, people are filmed, without knowing it, walking in the parking lot of a large hospital. They are framed in such a way, detached from the environment, that it looks like they are walking on a catwalk. These videos and more can be found on Vimeo: paul wiegerinck. Paintings made up of wire figures and then filled with color and structure, in East Indian ink and oil paint. Paintings as a reflection of the indescribable, in East Indian ink on linen.
