Cassandra van Veen (1964) graduated in 1992 from the Royal Academy of Arts Den Bosch, and has been working as a visual artist ever since. Her art works include drawings, paintings and watercolors of still life, portraits and landscapes created on location ('en-plein-air'). Her projects are approached with the essence of a poet, combined with her intense love of nature. All without compromising the universal principles such as composition, shape, rhythm and colour. Cassandra is averse to excessive exaggeration and deformation of the original essence of her subject's form. That said, she certainly remains in search of risks which you can find in her layered work fed from the Dutch and Flemish tradition of painting.

Every day in the Sea eigen beheer The Hague on the beach, Netherlands www.cassandravanveen.nl A morning swim in the North Sea. Sometimes alone, sometimes with companions. Submerged. In the waves, on the waves or under the waves. With the waves or against the waves. No matter the season, completely melted into the warmth or cold. Consumed. Covered. Lifted. Carried away. Accepted. Pulled back. Absorbed. Guided. Pushed away. Spat out. Shoved down and washed up. Or just a swim. Watercolours. Every day, a water colour is created, from the collection of impressions of each morning swim, whatever the conditions. The title of each painting is then developed into an 11 word poem; an “Elfje”. Art-Notepads Art-Notepads have been created with a selection of the watercolour series. Each painting can be torn off and shared with family, friends or to keep for yourself.
