Hong Kong has always been a place of ambiguity and in-betweenness because of its colonial history and current political scenario. This enclave composed my introspection on my cultural identity and observation of surroundings through traveling. Discovering what could it mean of being a Hongkonger in an auto-ethnographic approach.

Is a duo exhibition we collaborated on, showcasing our observations of the current world from two different cultural backgrounds. Practicing similar D-I-O (Do It Ourselves) methodology, we place emphasis on the idea of “inclusivity”, we tend to invite audience members to contribute and be a part of the show, bringing a message of ‘you also have the power to change’. In Peace Festival 2025, we extend this ideas whilst, compressing into a more intimate installation; a cardboard fort. We would like to invite you to be a part of our “micro-nation”, be together, play around, draw on the structure, to complete this work. Being in a climate like nowadays’ international tension is difficult and stresses us out a lot. How can we use the spaces we find ourselves in to the advantage of the local community? Even the smallest steps can make a big difference.

This exposition showcases a collection of works illustrating the worlds we see around us, juxtaposed with our western/eastern upbringing and cultural roots. Edison Ng and Sam Fuller attempt to capture what’s left to our generation, before we continue to lose our once for granted freedoms over time.

Nicknamed “Flags of all nations” was a common way to dry your clothes in Hong Kong’s public housing. It was also called as “Saam1 Zi1 Hoeng1 三支香 Three incense”. Due to safety measures, this way of drying has come to an end and became a symbol of nostalgia. - Shirts hanging underneath is a showcase of my ongoing project of collecting items related to Hong Kong in Europe. To me it’s a way of seeking home in foreign lands, also a way of returning “home”. I see printed T-shirt as a vehicle of culture and history, a wearable chronicle.
